Please accept my deepest condolences on the death of your wonderful mother. I can imagine the gulf that the departure of such a dynamic and committed mother and grandmother will leave at the heart of the family. The fact that she was a globally recognized figure who has made such a remarkable difference to improving the lot of the less fortunate must add to your sense of loss while at the same time acting as a great consolation as you draw solace from the regard with which she was held by people throughout the world.
On my own behalf and on behalf of my wife Aine, I want to say how impressed we were by Eunice's humanity, concern and welcome for us when we visited you all at the Cape for the presentation of the Catherine McAuley Medal on 4 August 2008. We could see the extent to which these crucial values had been passed by her to yours and to the next generation in the way you all welcomed and cared for us.
On behalf of the College community at Mary Immaculate College, I can assure you that we will hold Eunice in our prayers. It was an honor for all of us to be associated with her through the Award.
Please convey our condolences to all of your family.
I am asking our College Chaplain to include Eunice and all of her family in his prayers at daily Mass.
As we say in Irish "Ar dheis Dé go raibh a hanam" (May her soul rest on God's right hand).
