Dear Ambassador Shriver,
On behalf of the National Head Start Association, our national board and all of our board members we wish to offer you and your family our condolences for your loss. It has been an honor knowing that Mrs. Shriver was a friend and advocate for the Head Start community. Her dedication to those in need and her passion for assisting others was paramount and she will remain a model of caring for our organization.
Mrs. Eunice Kennedy Shriver impacted the lives of millions of Americans through her advocacy, promotion research, and non-profit entrepreneurial skills. She was a pioneer in advocating for the rights of the disabled, shaping the research agenda of the Joseph P. Kennedy Jr. foundation to fund mental retardation research, helping to establish the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development to conduct research on child and adult health issues, and founding the Special Olympics. Again, we are extremely proud to have worked with her advocating for those in need and she will be truly missed in the Head Start community. Please know that you and your family are in our thoughts and prayers.
