I am just so sorry to hear of the passing of your unique mum - Eunice Kennedy Shriver.
Nobody did more to open the door for people with special needs. Before your mum established Special Olympics - many people and many families hid behind the door in life - afraid of the reaction they or their loved ones would endure because a member of their family was considered "different".
My late brother Tim (who was born with down syndrome and who had two holes in his heart) adored the opportunity to participate in Special Olympics swimming events. He was a great swimmer. Other activities like athletics were too tiring for him. He was one of the first to have his beautiful blonde hair touch his collar. How wild. I was Events Manager for Special Olympics Australia (Sydney) in 2001 and 2002.
Your mum was an oustanding ambassador for all those families around the world who had someone in their family who was special.
I know you will continue her work and maybe your children can then continue yours.
With my sincerest condolences.
