State of Nebraska

Proclamation

WHEREAS, Citizens of Nebraska and people throughout the world mourn the loss of Eunice Kennedy Shriver, founder and honorary chairperson of Special Olympics; and

WHEREAS, In celebration of Eunice Kennedy Shriver's life and her vision to create a worldwide movement to improve and enhance the lives of individuals with intellectual disabilities; and

WHEREAS, We honor Eunice's six decades of tireless leadership and dedication working to transform the lives of millions of people around the world;

WHEREAS, To honor Eunice's life work, Nebraskans can commemorate and continue this legacy by getting involved in Special Olympics Nebraska and the 2010 USA National Games; and

WHEREAS, It is fitting for Nebraskans, as the host state of the Special Olympics 2010 USA National Games, to join in supporting the worthy goals of this observance.

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Dave Heineman, Governor of the State of Nebraska, DO HEREBY PROCLAIM August 11-18, 2009 as

SPECIAL OLYMPICS FOUNDER'S WEEK in Nebraska, and I do hereby urge all citizens to take due note of this observance.

IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand, and cause the Great Seal of the State of Nebraska to be affixed this Thirteenth day of August, in the year of our Lord Two Thousand Nine.
