Reflections on Eunice...

It was in 1983 that Eunice created the new Board of Directors of Special Olympics and invited me to join. For the next twenty years, I had a front-row seat as Special Olympics exploded into a world wide phenomenon. During that journey, I came to understand life in a way that I would not have otherwise. I learned about courage and self-worth from our athletes. I learned about joy and wonderful pride from our families. And, I learned about greatness from a woman with the clarity of vision and the steely determination to advance that vision against all odds. That woman was, of course, Eunice Shriver. I am a better person for having known her.
