Statement of Governor M. Jodi Rell on the Death of Eunice Kennedy Shriver
Today Connecticut - and all the world - mourns the passing of an extraordinary woman: a woman of uncommon strength and tremendous gentleness. Her vision of international competition became a reality in no small part due to her own vibrant personality.
Connecticut was privileged to host the international games in 1995. Mrs. Shriver gave a passionate speech that encapsulated the focus of Special Olympics: Individuals are defined far more by their manifold abilities than by their relatively few disabilities.
She was - she remains - she will always be - an inspiration to us all.
