A Letter from Special Olympics Rwanda

To Timothy P. Shriver

Chairman & CEO

Special Olympics

Athletes, families and the Board of Special Olympics Rwanda have learnt with deep sorrow the untimely death of your beloved mother and mother to us all as members of the Special Olympics Family.

The hole she leaves in our hearts is so deep and wide, hardly shall we be able to fill it. It is an enormous loss. On the other hand, we are very grateful for her contribution to the transformation of the lives of people with intellectual disabilities, their families and all of us who have been blessed to work with her.

There is no price or prize suitable for her contribution. As a contribution to her legacy, we pledge to work tirelessly to keep her powerful vision vivid by helping to change the lives of people with intellectual disabilities, their families and communities using sports as a catalyst for respect, acceptance and inclusion. Never, ever shall we forsake her!

On your part, we can imagine the way you feel. It is natural to break down under such circumstances. But to assure you, millions of brothers and sisters worldwide are moaning with you, which should keep you firm and stronger.

We send our condolences especially to you, your bereaved family, SOI staff and Board members who will miss the late Eunice the most.

May her soul rest in eternal peace!
